Information for Selected Participants

Thank you for visiting the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) Website. Your participation in this national survey is very important and we appreciate your interest.

NSDUH is conducted in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. For the study, household addresses are randomly selected through scientific methods. Once your household has been selected, no other household can take your place. For this reason, please know your participation matters.

If your address has been selected, a professional RTI interviewer will come in person to ask some general questions about the people who live there. This will only take a few minutes. Afterwards, the interviewer may ask one or two members of your household to complete the full interview. It is possible no one will be selected for the interview.

If you have been selected for an interview, the RTI interviewer will ask you to complete it right then, or schedule a time that is convenient for you. The interviewer will bring a laptop computer and you will answer most of the questions on your own by entering responses directly into it. You do not need any computer experience to participate. At the end of the interview, you will receive $30 in cash in appreciation for your help.

We sincerely appreciate your help in this important effort and look forward to talking with you soon.
